About Me
For over 50 years, I’ve immersed myself in the guitar world. Starting my journey at 12, I played through my twenties, exploring songs passionately despite my shaky rhythm and lack of music theory knowledge. After a 40-year hiatus, my grandson reignited my passion, leading me to revisit classics like Blackbird and Stairway to Heaven. Filled with excitement, I went to a local music store and chose what I thought was the perfect beginner’s guitar—an acoustic Ibanez. While it wasn’t the best fit, it ignited my learning journey, with YouTube as my loyal guide.
My second guitar, an acoustic Washburn from Sweetwater, transformed my experience—its rich sound and playability allowed me to flourish in my self-directed learning.
Then, I discovered the Guitar Cafe, a charming haven filled with coffee, ice cream, live music, and a guitar repair shop. My two years of private lessons there were invaluable until COVID-19 shifted the landscape. I then acquired my stunning Breedlove acoustic, which accompanied me to open gigs where I could jam with fellow musicians of all skill levels. However, the closure of the Guitar Cafe paused my collaborative playing.
I found solace in my first carbon fiber acoustic from Emerald Guitar in Ireland. It captivated me with its toughness against dents, scratches, and humidity. After over three years, my Emerald guitar remains as pristine and in tune as ever, proving it was a wise choice.
In recent years, I have collaborated with my sister, Ayn, whose exceptional voice beautifully complements my guitar work. We craft songs to record together, with me handling the guitar and her capturing the vocals. My role in mixing and mastering these recordings has been a rewarding learning experience, which I aim to share on this site.
I created this site to inspire others on their guitar journey, showcasing my transformation from a complete novice to a capable intermediate player. Exploring music and guitar theory has fueled my growth, and I hope to impart my insights and experiences to fellow enthusiasts.
